Off to a great start!
Kindergarten artists have been hard at work in the art studio! We started the year by learning all about the art studio rules and routines (Artistic Effort, Respect, Treatment of Materials). We learned that great artists show Artistic Effort, using their whole art time to work on their art, working slowly and carefully to do their best, and never giving up. We learned that in the art studio we always talk about art with Respect. When we talk to friends about their artwork we say what we SEE, what we NOTICE, and what it REMINDS us off. And lastly we learned that in the art studio it is very important to Treat Materials with care. We learned to care for the art studio space and the materials, so that everyone in our school community can have a positive experience in the art studio.
Scholars are now learning to create collages by arranging paper shapes on a base paper. Scholars have been making intentional artistic decisions to put their shapes close together, far apart, and overlapping.
Kindergarteners are learning to glue multiple shapes down in complex arrangements to make an interesting picture. Scholars will experiment and explore ripping and folding their papers to make new shapes.
As scholars hone their skills and abilities to arrange interesting compositions, they will soon practice cutting their own shapes to create pictures. Collage is a wonderful way for artists to improve their fine motor skills. They must be very detail oriented and precise when gluing, cutting, ripping, and arranging shapes.
